- Turn off all lights when exiting a room.
- Unplug any appliance not in use.
- Wash clothes in cold water.
- Reduce shower time.
- Walk, public transit or bike... drive less.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- Buy products with minimum packaging.
- But produce in season and grown locally.
- Properly insulate home.
- Install energy efficient windows.
- Stop drafts in home.
- Use ceiling fans to lower A/C use.
- Keep thermostats at a comfortable temperature but keep it reasonable. Approximately 10% savings a year can be seen on an energy bills by turning back one's thermostat just a few degrees for eight hours of the day (AEC, 2014).
- Buy Energy Star appliances.
- Install solar panels.
- Change outdoor lights such as flood lights to solar powered lights.
